Hello
A practicing artist, educator, and mentor with over 30 years of experience, my career has uniquely merged artistic practices with a profound commitment to transforming the lives of at-risk youths. Specializing in choice-based curriculum design, I’ve dedicated myself to providing professional development for educators, equipping them with the tools to engage and inspire varied populations. My passion lies in using art as a powerful vehicle for positive change, fostering creativity, resilience, and empowerment in both students and fellow educators. I provide portfolio development for high school students, adult studio workshops, mentoring, and professional development for educators.

My artwork moves fluidly between abstraction and narrative, between the intuitive gesture and the tactile act of building by hand. Whether working in acrylic paint or clay, I am interested in material as a language - one that records movement, touch, and intention.

My Story
My life's work has centered on nurturing creativity, curiosity, and confidence in young artists. I spent 30 years as a secondary art educator with Baltimore County Public Schools in Baltimore, Maryland and dedicated my career to learner-centered, choice-based art education.

My commitment to Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) and choice pedagogy led me beyond the classroom and into curriculum writing. As a curriculum writer, I developed comprehensive scope and sequence aligned to national standards for multiple secondary visual arts courses within the district.

Over the years, I have been honored to receive several professional recognitions, including National High School Choice Educator of the year (2025), National Secondary Art Educator of the Year (2025), Maryland Secondary Career Art Teacher of the Year (2017 and 2023), and the Maryland Outstanding Excellence in Education Award (2016). While these awards are meaningful, they ultimately reflect the cognitive growth of the students and educators I have had the privilege to work alongside.

Sharing knowledge and building community has always been central to my practice. I have presented at district, state , and national levels on choice-based art education, Teaching for Artistic Behavior, and teaching strategies for learner- centered classrooms. As a mentor I have supported teachers within Baltimore County and across the country, helping them navigate the practical, philosophical, and cultural shifts involved in implementing choice pedagogy. My professional development work is learner-centered and tailored to the specific needs of participants, meeting teachers where they are and guiding them toward sustainable, meaningful change.

Today I live in Savannah Georgia, where I continue my creative practice while supporting educators as an artist, mentor, and consultant. Whether I am making art, teaching, or mentoring, my purpose is the same: to empower artists and educators to trust the process, honor individual voice, and build environments where creativity can flourish.
